Garage Dividers — Turn Your Garage Into a Real Room

A garage is the biggest unused room in the house. Our freestanding walls — frosted panels that share the light, with a real sliding door — seal off a gym, office, workshop, or studio from the garage-door side. No framing, no drywall, no permits, and it moves with you.

Why freestanding beats framing a garage wall

No permits, ever

A garage conversion triggers change-of-use filings and inspections. A freestanding wall is furniture — nothing to file, nothing to inspect, and the garage stays a garage on paper.

Light passes through

Most garages have one bulb and no windows. Frosted panels share the light between both sides, so no room feels like a cave.

Fits around the hardware

Door tracks, opener rails, springs, low ceilings — every wall is custom-sized to your exact measurements, working around what’s there.

Moves when you do

Reconfigure as your needs change: gym now, workshop next year. Need the car spot back? It disassembles and stores flat.

Divide a garage without permits — because it’s furniture

Framing a garage divider wall in studs and drywall starts a renovation — and if the project reads as converting garage space, a change-of-use filing. A freestanding wall skips all of it: a real, rigid wall with a real sliding door, standing on adjustable leveling legs that handle the slope every garage floor has by design — and touching nothing, so there’s nothing to file.

It’s the same system NYC renters use to split a studio apartment and homeowners use for basement rooms — different floor, same physics. Straight run, L-shape, or a fully sealed room against the garage-door side: every wall is custom-built to your measurements in our Brooklyn shop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I legally live in my garage with this?

A freestanding wall is furniture, not construction — it doesn’t convert a garage into a legal dwelling, and it doesn’t need to. It creates a private, enclosed space for a gym, office, workshop, or studio without triggering DOB filings, a change of use, or permits, because nothing attaches to the structure.

What about the garage door and its tracks?

We spec every wall around what’s there — door tracks, springs, the opener rail, low headers. The wall stands inside those, sealing your room off from the garage-door side while the door itself keeps working.

Is the wall glass?

No — the panels only look like frosted glass. They share light the same way, but they’re lighter, safer, and far more durable than glass. Full material specs live on the product pages.

Does the whole wall slide?

No — the wall stands fixed on its own base; only the door slides. Single or double sliding doors, placed wherever your layout needs them.

Garages get hot, cold, and dusty - will it hold up?

The wall doesn’t absorb moisture or warp with temperature swings the way drywall does, and it meaningfully cuts dust and drafts from the garage-door side. It's not insulation — heat or cool the room the way you would any garage space.

How long does the install take?

A typical garage divider with a sliding door assembles in an afternoon — usually 2–3 hours. In the NYC tristate area our crew installs it; elsewhere it ships flat-packed for straightforward self-assembly.

Can I move or reconfigure it later?

Yes — it disassembles and rebuilds with no professionals. Gym now, workshop next year — and if you need the full garage back for a car, the wall comes down and stores flat.
