The Science Fair Deserves Better Than Folding Tables

Science fairs, open houses, art shows, graduation photos. Rigid freestanding walls — the kind museums and trade shows use — that divide a gym, cafeteria or auditorium into zones, booths and rooms, and give every project a real wall at eye level. Nothing attaches to the building; up in an afternoon, struck the same night.

One hall, separate areas

Freestanding walls separating exhibit areas at a school science fair

The first job is separation: freestanding walls split one big hall into exhibit aisles, booths and rooms — and every run of wall is display surface at eye level. Nothing is drilled, anchored or taped to the floor.

What it looks like

Portable backdrop wall behind a science fair presentation
A backdrop behind the presentation
Freestanding display walls at a school science fair
Posters at eye level, aisles open

The same freestanding wall system we rent and sell, shown at school scale — exhibit aisles, a presentation backdrop, and a clean line for the photo queue. Every wall is built in our Brooklyn shop and sized to the room.

One system, any layout

Straight run

A display aisle or a photo-line backdrop, any length.

L-shape

Wrap a corner — two display faces from one footprint.

Enclosed room

A full room inside the gym — testing, conferences, a quiet space.

Zones & booths

One hall, two events — the walls split the floor into separate zones.

What the walls do for a school

Every school runs the same events every year — the science fair, the open house, the book fair, the art show, graduation photos — and every year they run on folding tables, taped-up poster board, and whatever the custodian can lean against the gym wall without the fire marshal noticing. Meanwhile the work on those tables is real: a hundred kids spent a month on projects that get 40 inches of table edge each.

Separate areas

The #1 job: one gym becomes zones, booths and rooms — testing bays, parent-teacher conference rooms, a two-event afternoon — without a hanging curtain track.

Real display surface

Posters pin or mount flat at eye level — every project gets a wall, not a table edge. Aisles stay open and judges can actually walk the fair.

Freestanding, no damage

Nothing attaches to the gym floor, the walls, or the ceiling. No anchors, no drilling, no damage a principal has to explain. If the gym allows a volleyball net, it allows these.

Graduation & photo walls

A clean backdrop for the photo line — no rented drape sagging behind the diplomas.

Up in an afternoon, gone same night

A typical fair installs in an afternoon and strikes the same night. School stays a school on Monday.

Rent it once, or own it for good

Rental: $650 per 4x8 wall, per event — delivered, installed, and struck in the NYC tri-state area. Certificate of insurance provided — your facilities office gets the paperwork it asks for. It is the same crew and the same system behind our event partition rentals and event backdrop & display walls.

Purchase: from $1,176 per wall — flat-packs into a storage closet and comes back out for every event on the calendar. Two events and it has out-earned renting; most schools run four or more wall-worthy events a year. Ships nationwide. The walls themselves are our portable partition walls and standalone walls — the same system, sized for a school.

The honest part

These are not the tri-fold cardboard boards students bring — those still sit on tables in front of our walls just fine. And if all you need is one folding screen for one table, a $60 catalog divider is the right buy, not us. Our walls earn their keep when the whole fair, the whole open house, or the whole photo line needs to look like someone planned it.

Who this is for: PTAs and PTOs budgeting the year’s events · principals and facilities managers who answer for the gym floor · science department heads · school event volunteers who are done borrowing easels. One phone call, one delivery, every event this year.

Frequently asked questions

Will these damage the gym floor?

No. The walls are freestanding furniture on flat steel feet — nothing is drilled, anchored, or taped. Gym floor, cafeteria tile, and auditorium stage all stay exactly as they were.

Do students’ tri-fold boards work with these walls?

Yes — tri-folds sit on tables as usual, and flat posters mount directly on the walls so every project displays at eye level.

Can the same walls divide our gym?

Yes. The same freestanding walls split a gym into rooms for testing, conferences, or simultaneous events — no ceiling track, no hanging curtain.

Do you provide a certificate of insurance for our district?

Yes — rentals include delivery, installation, same-night strike, and a certificate of insurance for your facilities office.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy?

Renting is $650 per 4x8 wall per event. Buying starts at $1,176 per wall — so by the second event, owning has already won. Purchased walls flat-pack into a storage closet between events and ship nationwide.

How fast is setup?

A typical fair installs in an afternoon and strikes the same night, so the space is back in service the next morning.
